The Thoughts Said Stay in Bed
It was still dark when I left for the gym this morning.
Around 5:15am.
The house was quiet. Everyone was asleep. The bed was warm.
And the thoughts were there straight away.
"Stay home." "You're tired." "You can go later." "Missing one session won't matter." "It's comfy here."
The feelings came with them too.
The heaviness. The comfort. The pull to stay where it was easy.
And honestly, those thoughts made sense.
That's what makes them convincing.
They don't always show up sounding dramatic.
Sometimes they sound reasonable.
But this morning they were noticed.
Not perfectly.
Not with some big burst of motivation.
Just enough to see what was happening.
A thought appeared. A feeling followed. An urge pulled me back toward comfort.
And then it was noticed.
Not argued with. Not pushed away. Not turned into a big story.
Just noticed.
And because it was noticed, I didn't automatically feed it with more attention.
The thoughts arrived.
The feelings came.
But they were seen.
From there, from that space, getting up was simply the next step in the direction I already cared about.
Driving while the house was dark. Going while everyone was still asleep. Doing the workout before the day began.
Noticing created the space.
Not feeding it allowed the next step.
Notice it… don't feed it.
