The Petrol Station and the Craving That Came and Went
I walked into a petrol station today and immediately noticed all the usual temptations.
Chocolate. Chips. Lollies. Cold drinks.
For years, I thought the challenge was the food.
But lately I've been noticing something different.
The food isn't actually the problem.
What shows up first is a feeling.
A pull. A craving. A sense of wanting.
Then the mind quickly jumps in with thoughts:
"Just get one." "You've had a long day." "It won't matter."
Most of us either obey those thoughts or fight them.
Today, something different happened.
I simply noticed the craving.
Noticed how it felt in my body.
Noticed the thoughts trying to convince me.
And what was interesting is that the craving didn't stay.
It rose. It lingered. Then it faded.
Not because I used incredible willpower.
Not because I argued with it.
Not because I forced it away.
I simply stopped feeding it.
The craving came. The craving went.
Just another small moment showing me the same thing:
what gets fed often grows.
what gets noticed can pass.
Notice it… don't feed it.
