A Little Experiment

Today I tried a little experiment.

Without telling my wife, I looked for small ways to make her feel loved throughout the day.

Not grand gestures. Just little moments.

Holding her hand a little longer. Offering a gentle massage. Doing something I knew she'd appreciate. Looking for ways to serve instead of just thinking about myself.

What surprised me wasn't what I did…

It was everything that showed up in my mind while doing it.

Thoughts about what other people might think. Feeling a little self-conscious. Moments where it would've been easier to do nothing.

In the past, those thoughts might have quietly decided my behaviour.

Today, I just noticed them.

And because I noticed them, they didn't get to make the decision for me.

It made me realise how many opportunities to love the people around us can be missed — not because we don't care, but because we get caught up in our own thoughts and feelings.

Maybe your own experiment is simply this…

Notice what shows up in your mind the next time you have the chance to do something kind for someone you love.

Notice it… don't feed it.
